3 Rules for Near-Distance Savings
Rule 1: Light Truck First
Single-pack charges a flat rate regardless of distance — for short hops, light trucks usually win. Corocoro: Osaka → Kyoto from ¥18,000, Osaka → Kobe from ¥16,000 (off-peak weekday).
Rule 2: Pick Afternoon Slots
Morning slots are most expensive. Afternoon (after 1pm) or "free slot" can save 10–20%.
Rule 3: LINE Photo Quotes = No Overflow
Light trucks have a hard cap per trip. A phone quote can under-scope the load and cause same-day "overflow" issues. Photo-based LINE quotes prevent this.
Other Savings
Weekdays (Tue/Wed/Thu): 10–20% under weekend
Mid-month: less demand than month-end
Pre-pack everything: shorter on-site time = negotiating leverage
Source your own boxes (supermarkets, drugstores)
Tough Delivery Areas — Light Trucks Win
Central Kyoto (Shijo, Karasuma): one-ways, no-parking zones
Kobe Chuo (Sannomiya, Motomachi): slopes and narrow lanes
Kyoto machiya houses: narrow doors/stairs — hand-lifting sometimes needed
Higher delivery difficulty = bigger light-truck advantage.
Paperwork
Near-Distance Paperwork
Residency
Crossing prefectures requires move-out + move-in (same-prefecture moves only need transfer).
Osaka: move-out notice (14 days pre-move; window or MyNumber online)
Kyoto/Kobe: move-in within 14 days post-move, with transfer certificate
Utilities
Electric: Both Kyoto and Kobe are Kansai Electric territory — just address change
Gas: Mostly Osaka Gas territory across Kyoto/Kobe too — address change

Kansai-region moves save paperwork — electric and gas providers don't change.
